Oliver and Max recently joined us at Direct Air for a week of work experience. Read about their experience and what they learned during their time with the team.
As Year 10 and Year 12 students, we recently spent a week on work experience at Direct Air. We weren’t sure what to expect, but throughout the week we had the chance to visit different departments, meet lots of people and learn how a compressed air engineering business operates.
From shadowing engineers and visiting customers to learning about CAD drawings, health and safety, stores and the service office, every day gave us the opportunity to learn something new.
We recently spent a week at Direct Air on work experience, giving us the opportunity to see how different departments work together to support customers across a wide range of engineering projects.
Throughout the week, we spent time in the stores and service office, where we learned how equipment, parts and service activities are organised to keep projects running smoothly. We also had the chance to help the stores team with some day-to-day tasks.
We also spent time with the Health & Safety team, learning about the importance of safe working practices across the business. Later in the week, we joined the projects department, where we were introduced to CAD drawings and saw how compressed air systems are designed before installation
One of the highlights of the week was visiting a local customer with a member of the sales team. It was interesting to see how customer requirements are discussed and how the team recommends the right solution for each application.
Back at Direct Air, we watched engineers carry out a compressor service in the workshop and saw the installation team pre-building a compressed air system before it was delivered to site. It was great to see how every department plays an important role, from design and planning through to installation and ongoing service.
We’d like to thank everyone at Direct Air for making us feel so welcome throughout the week. We really enjoyed our time here and came away with a much better understanding of the engineering industry and the wide range of careers it offers.
